Wedding Cakes
|
With so many things to
plan and organise for your wedding, it can be easy to overlook the
importance of your wedding cake. The cake is not only a symbol of
your marriage but it also provides a very important focal point
at your reception.
So before you make any
decisions about your cake please do have a look at the wedding cakes
I have designed and created for others and imagine what I could
create for you
|
Designs:
My aim is to create wedding cakes that
are a little bit different - Something that today's discerning
bride is often searching for. There are countless design possibilities,
so let me inspire you!! |

|
Contemporary Cake Shapes:
For those after a really contemporary look
to their special cake. There is no need to stick to traditional shapes
when choosing your wedding cake. Why not be adventurous and go for
what I call a 'wonky' cake or an elegant column cake.
|
'Wonky' Wedding Cakes
These carved cakes are one of my favourite
shapes at the moment, as they lend themselves to all sorts of
design possibilities. Influenced by Australian cake designs
I created my first one - 'Charlie's Sunflowers' for my brother's
wedding in May 2003. Since then I have designed and created
many versions from small two tier cakes to much larger four
tier.

Column Cakes
Another shape that is gaining popularity is the column cake. A column
cake is basically a number of cakes of the same size stacked on top
of one another and then decorated. They can be left fairly simple,
decorated with flowers or, as my example on the left shows, decorated
with feathers, beads and wire scrolls which are all currently being
used by florists in bridal bouquets.

Suitcase Wedding Cakes:
|
Ideal for a couple who are getting married abroad and having
a reception once they return home or those who do a lot of travelling
for either work or pleasure. The examples shown here are just
to give you a few ideas. I like to incorporate a wedding's colour
scheme and as much personal detail as possible, for example
Mr and Mrs luggage tags and stickers on the cases to represent
places they have been or are going to. The cases can be made
in any style and any colour and each case can be made of a different
flavour of cake.

Character Cakes:
These are becoming very popular. I like to make the sugar figures
mini replicas of the bride and groom on their wedding day and
to give them fun cheeky faces. |
|
|
|
| Tall Elegant Wedding Cakes:
These cakes are ideal where the wedding breakfast is to be
held in a room with a high ceiling or in a large marquee,
or if the bride and groom themselves are both tall. Instead
of using traditional pillars I use elegant metalwork separators
to give a more contemporary look to these wedding cakes |

 |
Asian Wedding Cakes:
Although not traditional, it is becoming increasingly popular
to have a wedding cake at Asian wedding celebrations. So why
not have the cake designed to suit the occasion. The example
on the left was designed by taking patterns and colours from
the bride's wedding outfits and using them to create a truly
Asian cake. The example on the right was for a much smaller
celebration where the bride required a more stylised form
of pattern. |
